Superbowl 51 Recap

The Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots went head to head on Sunday in a thrilling Super Bowl game. The game that took place in Houston Texas, by overcoming the Falcons young defense the Patriots won.

The most known players on each teams are, Matt Ryan (QB) and Devonta Freeman (RB) from the Falcons, And from the Patriots Tom Brady (QB) and Julian Edelman (WR). Those are a couple of the stars from Super Bowl 51. Each team was lead by a strong leader, for New England their head coach is Bill Belichick, and the Falcons Dan Quinn.

The outcome of the game was a Patriots comeback in the late 4th quarter. Experts are saying that the comeback from the patriots was extraordinary and they overcame the greatest point deficit in super bowl history. Going into the game the Patriots were favored by three points. [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]

3rd quarter: The comeback for the patriots started when they successfully completed third down passes to turn it into a first down. One of the bigger plays was the trickplay with Julian Edelman, and Dion Lewis. Then later in the 3rd quarter Jake Matthews commits a holding penalty to push the Falcons out of field goal range. Then Matt Ryan was sacked to make the Falcons punt. Then Tom Brady went to work and got the patriots to the red zone by the start of the fourth quarter.

4th quarter: The Patriots get into the red zone and then their kicker, kicks 33 yard field goal to make it a 28-12 game. Then the Falcons offense comes back onto the field and after a series of plays. Devonta Freeman Hits Matt Ryan and gets a strip sack Then the Patriots recover. Tom Brady comes out onto the field and on the first play he goes down and gets sacked.

After the sack Brady came back and went 15-19, 170 yards, with two touchdowns (ESPN). Then the Patriots hit Amendola for a 6 yard pass for the touchdown and a two point conversion to make the game a one touchdown game.

All the Patriots have to do is stop a scoring attempt by the Falcons to win the game. The Falcons gave up a sack on Matt Ryan, Then Ryan threw multiple incomplete passes to turn the ball back over to the Patriots. After this Tom Brady threw to Edelman who is in double coverage and makes an unbelievable catch. Later White rushes for a 1 yard touchdown, and then Amendola converts the two-pointer. The Falcons will get the ball back but will not be able to get the ball back to the red zone. [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]

Overtime: The Patriots will start with the ball in overtime. Brady hits Edelman for a 15 yard catch. The Patriots offense kept making complete passes and walked right down the field and then they got the touchdown to make them Super Bowl 51 champions.

Robert Olson, A student at PACT Charter School said that the Falcons played the better game, they had decent ball control, but their Offensive line gave up crucial ball control in second half. Chase Conradi, also a student at PACT said the best part of the game was the Falcons pick 6.

At the end of the game the Falcons players and fans reacted with sadness and looks of dejection. however the Patriots fans Jumped over the stadium barriers and rushed the field, while the player ran around the field jumping for joy.

Bill Barnwell, a staff writer at ESPN, said “The Atlanta pass rush disappeared, at the beginning of the game Atlanta pressured Brady on 44.7% of his dropbacks.” After that Atlanta couldn't get any pressure on Brady for the rest of the game. Allowing Brady to have time for his receivers to get open and make long crucial passes to get down the field.

The Falcons defense look tired at the end of the game but fought through it and even though they gave up the touchdowns, and 2 point attempts. In overtime the Falcons defense gave the Patriots offense a good run and made it difficult for them. This Super Bowl was special for Tom Brady because he finally got his fifth ring which achieved a feat.

Although this Super Bowl seemed like the most action packed Super Bowl, maybe next year will be better or the following year. Given the age and record for both starting quarterbacks it will be interesting to see where each of them end up next year.
