Last week the Pact CIS Physics class went on a field trip to Bethel University. Mr. Coleman drove the class to Bethel on the Pact short bus. I interviewed Sam Corbett about it after they went. I asked him what their plans were before they went. “We performed a scientific laboratory”.
I asked what the lab was and he said “we measured the buoyant force of the mass. We were required to perform many measurements of four different types of solids. There was a plastic cylinder, there was an aluminum cylinder, there was a brass cylinder, and an oddly shaped solid. And we had to measure the buoyant force of all of these solids by placing them in water”.
Then I asked him if he had any goals for Bethel and he said “I wanted to perform the labs as fast and as accurate as possible. So I could get to the cafeteria quickly and eat as much food as possible”.
They went to Bethel, which is located in Arden Hills, on November 18th. I asked Sam why the class went to Bethel. “Because it is a very good school and I wanted to experience it first hand and see it with my own eyes”.
Then I asked him what happened at Bethel, he said “we first did our lab and it took a little over an hour. Then after the lab we went out to the cafeteria for lunch, after eating lots of food, we were given a tour of the school. After the tour, we got on the bus and went back to Pact”.
I asked him what he learned, and if anything went out of the ordinary and he said “I learned new things about the properties buoyancy and density, and nothing out of the ordinary happened”. They were graded on their experience and amount of effort rather than if they got it right or not.
Finally, I asked Sam what was his favorite part and he said “I enjoyed everything, the lab was very interesting. The food was amazing, it was like 5-star restaurant quality. I also loved the tour and seeing all the amazing sites, their library is two floors and their gym is three floors. The gym and the library were my favorite places that I saw, other than the cafeteria”.
“The gym was a recent addition just added last year. It was very expansive with three floors. The first floor consisted of machines, dedicated for building upper body strength. The second floor was dedicated to cardio with lots of treadmills. The third floor was a studio, where students could participate in various extra curricular exercise activities, such as yoga and Zumba”. -Sam
“The library was very grand. It has two floors with over 200,000 printed resources. It has special computers that allow you to use both apple software and Microsoft software. And the auditorium which was about 5 times as big as north gates it seated over 2,500 people”. -Sam
“It was the largest cafeteria I have ever seen, they had all different kinds of foods, anything you could think of. They had professional chefs to cater us, we could create our own pasta. I have never experienced a restaurant fancier than this. This is the fanciest place I have ever eaten at”. -Sam
Sam said his overall favorite part was the cafeteria because of the wide selection of food. And how high quality the food is and the staff serving and cooking the food. Sam and I were wondering if all colleges were like this or was it just Bethel University?
As juniors and seniors are making their (final) decisions about where to attend college, Bethel should be at the top of their list. Not only has Bethel sponsored PACT since its inception, they provide a rigorous education – apparent in this most recent field trip – as well as a great cafeteria. :)
