Newly Discovered Ancient Images Found at Pharoah’s Tomb

Discoveries that we find today could lead to other discoveries. They will help us in the future.
Archaeologists receive funding for digging up sites that they think to be the home of artifacts from the past. Archaeologists received more funding to dig deeper this time. There has been a new discovery recently of ancient images found at the site of Pharaoh's tomb that was discovered earlier along with a few other artifacts and images.
The building in Abydos that was last excavated in 1904 is home to the Pharaoh’s body. Inside the tomb of Pharaoh, there are images that are inscribed on the plastered wall of a boat. Remains of that boat were found next to the tomb.
Rachel Bishop said the pharaoh buried at the site is known as Senusret III. He was known to be a great Pharaoh of the Twelfth Dynasty and the most powerful ruler.
According to RT question more, archaeologists investigated the tomb once more after it caved in in 1903 when archaeologist Arthur Weigall excavated the tomb. He concluded that “The roof was barrel shaped, and some of it was still standing until excavated when it fell in.” Now Josef Wegner is leading a team that is excavating the site and others along with it.
According to Owen Jarus, a total of over 120 inscribed images of varying sizes ranging from 5ft. to 4in. were found there. Some of these images illustrate, in detail, the different parts of the boat including the masts, sails, rudders, oars, and some even include rowers. Others only illustrate the general shape of the boat.
There are many methods that archaeologists use to find artifacts and each one allows them to search in a specific terrain. These methods include the systematic survey method, a magnetometer, resistivity survey, light detection and ranging, along with a few others. To find this site they most likely used systematic survey method where they walk in straight lines and dig small square holes every 100 feet or survey entails. They walk around the area in search for artifacts above the surface because that gives an idea of what could be below the surface.
In order for archaeologists to be able to excavate an area, they need funding. This is provided by some museums that have money set aside, but that means that they’re only allowed a certain amount of time before they must pack up and leave. Archaeologists had been digging through the building in Abydos in 1904 where the tomb is located but had to leave the tomb be. They knew it was there but had no idea what rested below.
Archaeologists concluded that at some time after Pharaoh's death people revisited his tomb and reused parts from the boat after taking it apart since only a few planks were left behind. The pottery was still left in its place. Each pot faced toward the mouth of the tomb.
There could be many reasons why they inscribed these images. People then didn’t have paper so they drew on walls. Possibly it was for the purpose of “dressing up” Pharaoh’s tomb or to have the images show what the boat looked like. Owen Jarus said, “Yet another possibility is that a group of people gained access to the building after the Pharaoh died and created the tableau.”
People believe that discoveries like this will help us survive. Brad Lepper said that archaeologists are important because they discover how people lived and survived or what mistakes people made in the past. By knowing this we can use that information to keep us alive and thriving.
Owen Jarus wrote that Archaeologist Wegner believes that some people could have come in and drawn the images after he had been buried there for some time. Another possibility he presented was that the people who built the boat also created the images.
Not only were there left over planks of wood and images of boats but there were also images of cattle, gazelle, and flowers along with a plethora sum of pottery. Owen Jarus says that archaeologists believe that they used the pottery to carry diverse types of liquid and this liquid was used as a way to “float” the boat during the Pharaoh’s ceremony. Another theory is that they used the liquid to stiffen the ground once the boat was in place to keep it there.
PACT high school students begin looking for what they want to do in their near future. Archaeology is a great career to go into or at least be informed of. It’s suggested that kids who enjoy science would also enjoy this profession and for people who want to travel and to see the world.
Archaeologists live in different climates, cultures, and conditions. People living in different conditions helps them pick up on different languages and tendencies. Some even become fluent in multiple languages. Jeffrey Joyner describes archaeologists as modern-day adventurers because they go to foreign places to discover ancient artifacts.
Discoveries are being made so often. These discoveries are being put together like puzzle pieces. One is found that leads to another. This is what shaped our pasts and could help shape our future.
