The PACT Panthers took the L in a close game
PACT’s girls varsity soccer team lost their homecoming game on Saturday September 17 against Mayer Lutheran. The game was played at PACT’s home field, the Draw, even with the home field advantage, Mayer Lutheran got a lucky breakthrough and took a lucky shot, making the final score 1-0, loss.
Our PACT girls varsity soccer team had our homecoming game. On this team, some of the starters are Christa Saunders, Brooke Gaustad, Grace Armstrong, Bethany Flaten, Danae Heckman, Tamara Hageman, Kaitlyn Cardinal, Alissandra DeLain, Camryn Petersen, Isabelle Anderson, and Ellie Jones. The captains are Cardinal, Heckman, and Flaten.
In this game we played against Mayer Lutheran Crusaders. Mayer Lutheran is a Christian school in Mayer Minnesota. Mayer Lutheran is a 9-12 school. “We were playing really good. It was on both sides of the field, but no one was scoring. Suddenly, in the second half, Mayer Lutheran got a breakaway. Everyone was tired. As they raced down the field,” Christa Saunders said, “they took a lucky shot and scored. The game finished after that.”
Christa Saunders, a senior on the soccer team said, “If we practice more, and we work on doing our best and not giving up, we can improve.” she says that they didn’t really do anything wrong, but Mayer Lutheran had a lucky breakaway and a lucky shot. Saunders is the goalie for the Panthers.
PACT’s Homecoming game was played at our home field, called the Draw. This field is right across from PACT. At 2:00, following the boys’ soccer game on September 17, the girls played. The homecoming dance for PACT would start at 7:00. The game consists of two halfs, a half being 40 minutes long, and a half time of 15 minutes.
Megan Pangier, a 9th grader, and Saunders say that we need more support! They think that if we advertise, and make sure people know about it, people will know. Pangier says that we should announce it and get people excited to go.
Pangier was a fan at the homecoming game. “Quite a few fans were there,” she says “most of them were parents though.” Pangier thinks that because parents didn’t have work and because this game was on the weekend, more fans were there. But we still need all the support we can get, so come out to the field and cheer on the Panthers!
“This was a homecoming game, it was on a Saturday” says Pangier. She believes that this could be a reason for more people showing up. It was also after the boys’ game so the fans from that stayed to cheer on the girls.
The homecoming game was announced at our homecoming pep rally. Some people were told about this game by friends that they have on the team. Talk to people in your grade, or the grade above, who play soccer and find out when you can go support.
Pangier and Saunders both agree that if we can get a scoreboard, bleachers, a concession stand outside, and a specific place to sit, we can get more people there. But these shouldn’t be the reason to not show up! Bring a blanket, bring some chairs, but get up and go cheer on your school!
The final score was 1-0, Mayer. However, this is not a bad game. PACT has a great team, and this one game will not determine how the rest of the season goes. Don’t lose your pride in PACT Sports, for we will fight until the very last game. Go Panthers!
