The P.A.C.T. Panthers were not at their best for their homecoming game.

Now introducing The Panthers, Igor Shevchenko, Bennett Olson, Alex Myrum, Mason Slag, Trevor Lindbergh, Noah Myrum, Joe Coughlin, Gabe O’Quendo, Jace Fischer, Timmy Stariha are our starting P.A.C.T. varsity soccer team! The captains are Heino and Shevchenko. The coach of the varsity boys soccer team is our very own history teacher, Mr. Thompson.

The P.A.C.T. Panthers played the Mayer Lutheran Crusaders for their homecoming game.Mayer Lutheran is located in Mayer Minnesota.

The Panthers homecoming game was on Saturday September 17th at our home field The Draw. The games started at about 12 p.m. and each half of a soccer game is 40 minutes. The game was on the day of our homecoming dance at P.A.C.T. and right after the boys varsity game was the girls varsity soccer game.

Even with the home field advantage the boys just couldn’t pull out a win. The final score was one to twelve. Our only point was scored but senior captain, Igor Shevchenko.

“The Crusaders jumped on us in the beginning and we didn’t have enough time to get back into the game” says Coach Thompson.

Coach Thompson said “ We played pretty crappy, Igor scored one and tried to pick the team back up, but it wasn’t enough to win. We started out too slow and didn’t have enough time to pick it back up, we got down on ourselves.”

To improve our game, Coach Thompson said the team needs to work on their defensive plays. He said marking up and defending passing lanes was also important. Also key to anything in life is to never get down when you are behind.

When I asked Asher Maahs, a varsity soccer player, how many fans attended their homecoming game, I was told a decent amount, although it was mostly parents. It was easier for parents to go to this game because it was on a weekend.

To get more fans at the game Maahs Suggested we could get bleachers for people to sit at, so they don’t have to bring their own chair. We could start offering concessions like we do at volleyball and basketball games. We also need to advertise better, most fans are not even sure when games are until they are happening. We need someone to get the word out there about the games. “We need to get students feeling proud of their school,” says Thompson
